Payments as an Identity Graph: The Social Feed
Supporting the data layer where transactions become searchable social context
Introduction
01
The P2P platform is the consumer side of the global payments company's two-platform fintech architecture, covering peer-to-peer payments, the social feed, merchant checkout through pay via the platform, cards and balance, and crypto. Taller's engagement at the P2P platform and the global payments company organization is the deepest fintech engineering footprint in the portfolio: multi-year, multi-pod, spanning the consumer side at the P2P platform, the platform side at this company, and the processor side at their payment processing platform (still active in 2026). The five cases below describe what Taller has delivered against the strategic surfaces the P2P platform's report proposed.
Problem
02
The P2P platform's social feed pairs every payment with social context — names, notes, emoji, identity, friend graph — creating a primary-key relationship between transactions and people. At consumer-finance scale, this requires data-infrastructure engineering that supports user search, feed materialization, and the social-graph layer without compromising the transactional integrity of the underlying payments substrate. The architecture has to split synchronous payment recording from asynchronous feed materialization, and the data-infra contract has to land each payment event with enough context for the feed materializer to construct the visible item without re-reading the transactional store.
Solution
03
Taller engineers contribute to the P2P platform data-infrastructure layer that powers user search, the social-graph index, and the feed materialization pipeline, working the firm's own role description name explicitly. Around that, Taller delivered the mobile and backend pod that supported the Business Profile launch on iOS, Android, Python, and MySQL, with multiple flavors of SRE (Networking, Data Platform, Security DevOps, Cloud Engineer, Configuration Management with Incident Response) sustaining the broader engagement.
Impact
04
The Business Profile launch was delivered on accelerated timing, hitting the P2P platform's monetization goals with an optimized architecture underneath. Sustained data-infrastructure individual contributor presence on the feed and social-graph workloads.
Significance
05
The scale the P2P platform's social-feed strategy produced is notable: hundreds of billions in TPV growing rapidly year-over-year, tens of millions of customers, and the academic literature on hundreds of millions of public transaction messages. These are the P2P platform's outcomes earned by the P2P platform's product strategy and the consumer-facing UX. Taller's contribution is the data-infrastructure substrate underneath the feed and social graph, plus the engineering scale-up that supported the Business Profile launch.
