Turnkey Family Banking as a Distribution Platform
Building the mobile SDK that lets financial institutions launch co-branded family banking faster
Introduction
01
The client is the family-fintech category leader: debit card, investing, savings, safety, and senior protection. The platform serves 6.5M parents and kids, with $100M+ ARR by late 2021 and $2B+ in family-managed assets by 2025. The product is direct-to-consumer across four subscription tiers (Core, Max, Infinity, Family Shield) and B2B2C through the B2B2C banking platform. Taller's engagement at this client is the largest sustained mobile-plus-backend engineering footprint in the portfolio: three master-deck case studies, more than sixty filled roles across 2022 to 2026, and pods covering Backend Node.js, Android, iOS, Fullstack, QA, SDET, SRE, and Security. The two cases below describe what Taller has delivered against the family financial platform's most consequential strategic bets.
Problem
02
The B2B2C banking platform is the co-branded turnkey institutional product. For partner banks and credit unions to deploy quickly, the technical primitive at the integration boundary has to be a customizable SDK that absorbs partner-specific variance across onboarding flows, card-issuing rails, KYC pipelines, and reporting expectations, while remaining manageable to deploy. Without that SDK, every partner deployment becomes a custom integration project that does not scale.
Solution
03
Taller delivered a Mobile team that built the family financial platform's credit-card features and the customizable SDK for partner applications, organized into Credit and Partner Enablement pods using Swift and Kotlin with CI/CD, with engineering managers, QA, and technical leads embedded. The SDK is the technical artifact that lets partner mobile applications integrate the family financial platform's household graph and spending-permission model without rebuilding from scratch. Across the broader engagement, sustained iOS Tech Lead, Android Tech Lead, and Mobile Engineering Manager roles maintain the pod structure.
Impact
04
The Mobile-team engagement delivered a thirty percent reduction in time from ticket creation to closure, a twenty-five percent decrease in defect density, and a forty percent increase in knowledge transfer across the team. The sixty-person team plus engineering managers, QA, and technical leads delivered in under ninety days.
Significance
05
The B2B2C banking platform scaled from fifty-plus partner institutions in June 2024 to more than two hundred by March 2026, a four-fold partner-channel expansion. That partner-channel growth is the family financial platform's commercial outcome, earned by the institutional sales motion, the partner-onboarding business operations, and the banking technology partner pre-integrations design — all functions the family financial platform runs. The customizable SDK underneath the partner channel is the technical primitive that lets the strategy scale at the cadence the business committed to, and it is the deliverable Taller built.
